Can You Perform a Lash Lift on a Pregnant Client?
We generally do not recommend performing a lash lift on a pregnant client, especially during the first trimester.
Pregnancy can make the skin, eyes and sense of smell more sensitive. Lashes may also respond differently to lash lift solutions, so the final result can be less predictable.
If irritation or an allergic reaction occurs, treatment options may also be more limited during pregnancy.
Why Lash Lifts During Pregnancy Can Be Risky
During pregnancy, hormonal changes can affect the body in different ways. For lash lift treatments, this may mean:
- More sensitive eyes and skin
- Stronger reaction to smells
- Increased chance of irritation
- Less predictable lash lift results
- Shorter or inconsistent retention
This does not mean every pregnant client will have a reaction. However, lash artists should take extra care and avoid treating pregnancy like a normal appointment.
Should Lash Artists Avoid Lash Lifts in the First Trimester?
Yes, it is best to avoid lash lift treatments during the first trimester.
The first trimester is often when clients feel more nauseous, sensitive or uncomfortable. If a client is newly pregnant or unsure, recommend that they speak to their doctor or midwife before booking any beauty treatment.
What to Ask Before Saying Yes
Before accepting a pregnant client for a lash lift, check:
- Have they had a lash lift with you before?
- Have they had any allergies, irritation or reactions before?
- Are they in the first trimester?
- Do they feel comfortable lying down for the treatment?
- Have they spoken to their doctor or midwife if they are unsure?
If the client has never had a lash lift before, has a history of reactions, or is in the first trimester, it is safer to avoid the treatment.

Consent Form and Patch Test
If the client still wants to proceed, make sure they complete a consent or indemnity form before the appointment.
You should also perform a patch test before the treatment. A patch test cannot guarantee that no reaction will happen, but it helps reduce risk and shows that proper precautions were taken.
Always explain that results may be less predictable during pregnancy.

During the Lash Lift Appointment
If you decide to proceed, keep the appointment as gentle and comfortable as possible.
Make sure you:
- Keep the client in a comfortable position
- Keep the room well ventilated
- Check in throughout the treatment
- Stop immediately if they feel dizzy, nauseous or unwell
Pregnant clients may not feel comfortable lying flat for long periods, so always prioritise comfort over speed. Consider using a curved mattress foam topper or an ergonomic lash pillow to enhance your client’s comfort throughout the treatment.

Treatment Tips for Pregnant Clients
When performing a lash lift on a pregnant client, use extra care around the eye area.
When performing a lash lift on a pregnant client, use extra care around the eye area and make sure you are using professional-quality lash lift supplies designed for controlled, precise application.
- Minimise contact with the eyelid and surrounding skin
- Apply solutions slightly further away from the lash line
- Avoid tinting if possible
Tinting is best avoided because it adds another chemical product to the treatment, which may increase the chance of irritation or sensitivity.

When You Should Not Perform the Treatment
It is best to avoid the lash lift if:
- The client is in the first trimester
- The client has never had a lash lift before
- They have sensitive eyes or skin
- They have had previous allergic reactions
- They feel nauseous, dizzy or unwell
- They are unsure or uncomfortable
- Their doctor or midwife has advised against beauty treatments
What to Say to Your Client
You can explain it like this:
“Because you are pregnant, your skin, eyes and sense of smell may be more sensitive than usual. Your lashes may also respond differently to the solution, so the result may be less predictable. For this reason, we generally do not recommend lash lifts during pregnancy. If you still wish to proceed, we recommend checking with your doctor or midwife first, completing a consent form and having a patch test.”
